Oporto’s Ribeira

It is the riverside area, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is the most characteristic area of the city due to the colorful riverside houses, small markets and restaurants along the Douro River.

 

Dom Luis metal bridge

Designed by Théophile Seyrig, a disciple of Gustave Eiffel and inaugurated in 1886, it connects Oporto with Vila Nova de Gaia while crossing the Douro River.

 

Port’s wine cellars

Port wine is internationally acclaimed for its quality and although it is produced in the Douro Valley, its cellars can be found in Vila Nova de Gaia. You’ll have the opportunity to visit one and enjoy a wine tasting.

 

Cruise at the Douro’s River

Avenue of the Allies – ‘Avenida dos Aliados’

Aliados is Oporto’s main avenue with more than 100 years of existence. The name comes from an alliance formed between England and Portugal in the fourteenth century. It’s surrounded by beautiful buildings, refined coffee shops, hotels and it’s also the home of the City Hall.

 

São Bento railway station

The primary station of Oporto located in the heart of the city, not far from Aliados Avenue and Clérigos Church and Tower. It is often described as one of the most beautiful train stations in the entire world. Jorge Colaço, painter, caricaturist and potter and a master in tile painting art, covered the walls and ceilings with 22 thousand tiles – “azulejos”. These depict relevant episodes of Portuguese history.

 

Bolhão market

Traditional market in the heart of Oporto known for its diversity and the sellers’ flamboyant and feisty attitude. It is the most emblematic market of the city and one of the most famous in Portugal.
